Educating and Training for Life
In order for the education of young people to lead to a realistic and valued goal, objectives, concepts, ideals, values and an image of mankind are needed that are both contemporary and timeless.
Furthermore, the young person should be educated to become an autonomous individual as well as a valuable member of society; they should be in a position to combine both “I” and “we” in harmony.
Balancing these aspects is at the core of all the difficulties faced by education.
And yet, we know that education is possible and necessary, In fact, it is perhaps just this contradiction which makes education and learning so fascinating and exciting.

Historical Basis of Education
The ideas, objectives and ideals of our vision of education are based on three fundamental concepts:
1. The image of man which developed from the movement of enlightenment in the 18th century:
- man as an autonomous individual
- man as a sensible being
- man as a responsible part of a community
2. The ideals of education postulated by Wilhelm von Humboldt in the early 19th century:
- guiding man to discover himself
- developing man as a whole
- freedom as both an educational method and objective
- education as a citizen of the world > the concept of Europe
3. The ideas of reformist education which have arisen in Europe since the beginning of the 20th century – such as the /span>>/>>/>>/>/span>>/>>/>>/>/span>>/>>/>>/>Montessori-Method or the Waldorf school method.
Education and Learning at the Europa-Schule Kairo
The Europa-Schule Kairo works in a challenging context: a German school with German educational objectives, a German syllabus and mainly German teachers in an Arabic country with a majority of Arabic-Speaking children. Their parents, however, value German culture, values, language, school education and German academic qualifications.
This requires much more than a profound concept and educational methods based on a balanced view of mankind: above all it requires a love of children, a love of the country and the people, it needs human warmth and individual care, support and understanding.
We are as dedicated to fulfilling these expectations as we are to recognising the necessity to provide cross-language and cross-cultural education, avoiding the creation of an isolated German island in a foreign country.
The Europa-Schule Kairo strives to accompany young people in their development, to guide them and help them find their way in the world.
Our school should be a place where children feel cared for, but which also challenges the young person with their individual abilities, supports them, and gives them a broad understanding and wide-ranging skills, preparing them for a life which is becoming increasingly difficult in an age of globalisation. The experience of being cared for here gives the children a solid emotional basis without which people can quickly become lost in a world of pluralism and diversity. To be a world citizen you have to be able to develop a strong identity.
