Educational Philosophy in Kindergarten and Pre-School

Since the beginning of the 2005/2006 school year the Kindergarten has operated on the educational principles of the Montessori method.
At the centre of the Montessori method is the development of the personality of the child and the young person.
Maria Montessori, a foremost Italian doctor and educationalist, recognised that children of kindergarten age are at a key stage in the development of their senses, motor skills, and the ability to learn language and mathematics.

It is therefore essential that children in kindergarten are offered materials from these areas which enable them to develop their senses and motor skills.
Correspondingly the kindergarten includes materials to develop the senses, motor skills, materials to learn and refine language skills as well as materials for mathematics.
In addition, there is material for elementary science and of course games and opportunities for drawing and crafts.
The children work independently and individually with the Montessori materials, whilst the teacher gives advice and accompanies the child in their development and learning process.

In kindergarten the children learn to make decisions independently, they learn to concentrate, as they have to finish working with materials, they also learn to keep order, as each material has to be put back in its place and they learn to organise their own work area.

The teachers speak to the children in German at all times, the classroom assistants help with Arabic when communication problems arise.
Social learning also begins now, as the children sometimes work with a partner or in a small group, or have to come to an agreement about materials.
Learning the German language is, of course, a core feature.
